Dynasty Baseball for Beginners: Startup Drafts
New to dynasty? It is fantasy baseball where you keep your whole roster every year. The startup draft sets your foundation — here is how to approach it.
What makes dynasty different
In dynasty you keep every player indefinitely, and you draft incoming rookies each year. That changes everything: age matters, prospects have real value, and a single great young player can anchor your team for a decade.
Balancing now vs. later
The classic beginner mistake is drafting only established stars or only prospects. You want both — enough production to compete soon, enough youth to stay good. The startup board gives you a live consensus order to balance against.
Don’t reach for prospects too early
Prospects are exciting but uncertain. In a startup, anchor the early rounds with proven, age-appropriate talent, then add upside as the draft develops. The board’s values will keep you honest about when a prospect is actually worth the pick.
Learn the market with the tools
Before your draft, scan the value chart to learn the tiers, and play a few rounds of the Player Picker to internalize how the community ranks players. You will draft far more confidently.
